Costa Colachis Glass (he/him), releasing under the moniker ifiwereme, is a curious multi-instrumental sound artist from Seattle, Washington. Having grown up with a background in jazz tenor saxophone, he has used this foundation to play and write in various musical contexts from ambient sound design to punk ballads; arranged field recordings to folk songs. He currently studies environmental engineering in conjunction with sonic arts; he has scientific motivations behind his artistic decisions and vice versa. Costa’s overlapping interests in soundscapes from the natural and unnatural world manifest in live performance, made from cassette and code, combining each end of the digital-analogue spectrum. Costa is currently based in Auckland, New Zealand.

The foundations of Costa’s songs were written, musically and lyrically, alongside his sister Eliana Glass. They began writing together for the first time in their lives in early 2020 and have a clear and tunnel-minded trust in one another. In late 2020 Costa began recording and writing with the band members of San Francisco band Uncle Chris – former drummer Gabriel True and bassist Alex Wolfert, at Hyde Street Studios. Initially improvising and vamping, arrangements began to form, and further an album. The 8-song album Water Buffalo is recorded live allowing everything to be captured in its most raw, naive format. Limited overdubs and digital effects created limits but allowed the project to find unique combinations to create a concrete, succinct sound.
